“Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.”  Brene Brown

Eating Disorders
adults only

Eating disorders come in all shapes and sizes, and there are a myriad of complex reasons to obsessively body-check, binge, starve, restrict, abuse laxatives, graze, withhold insulin, purge, over-exercise, color code food, perform food rituals, and everything in-between, just to get by day to day.

I know that an eating disorder can feel like power, control, security, safety, uniqueness . . . This is hard to give up because we're hard-wired for certain needs to be met. However, it's how we meet them that determines our well-being.

To be clear, I won't put you on a meal plan or diet, nor will I advise what is "safe" or "not safe" to eat, because everything has a green light when you are truly in tune with yourself.  My guess is that you've tried everything to stop what you are doing and to no avail this secret life prevails.

I will help you explore the origins of the eating disorder. It's not always because of "the controlling, rigid mom and absent dad;” it's much more complex.  Family dynamics can play a part as well as various traumatic events, biology, and genetics.

Depending on the severity of the eating disorder and other symptoms, I may recommend you also work with a dietitian, psychiatrist, or other health care practitioner. If you need higher level care, I will not hesitate to have a heart-felt discussion with about the reality of your health and what is needed to begin living again, if living is your desire.

An eating disorder is an exhausting, full-time, lonely job with no room for anyone, not even you. Seventy to ninety percent of your 65,000 daily thoughts are intrusive and spent obsessing over your food, calories, body, shape, and weight. Much of your routine is to criticize the body that once belonged to you; now it’s just an object to control, beat-up, and shame. You are more than a number and life can be yours again. Call me to discuss how I can help and to see if we are a good fit as you journey back to YOU.
